This is a bit of a guide to help you decide how long you will need. Some people take a picnic, some prefer to go to a restaurant for lunch. There are plenty of options.
Please note that all the times quoted below and are one way only, so allow time for the return! If you are rowing you will at least need to double these times, depending on how fit and motivated you are!
Please also be aware that although the Ouse is not a tidal river, there can often be a flow. This flow goes from West to East so will obviously average out over a round trip.
Goodboats HQ to the Three Jolly butchers Pub / Houghton Lock
1 mile or 10 minutes
Goodboats HQ to Huntingdon bridge and The Old Bridge Hotel & Restaurant
2 miles or 20 minutes
Houghton Lock to Godmanchester Lock (the longest journey without operating a lock)
3.5 miles or 40 minutes
Houghton Lock to Hemingford Lock
1.5 miles or 15 minutes
Hemingford Lock to St Ives
1.5 miles or 15 Minutes
For those of you doing day trips and transiting locks, a lock can take anywhere between 10 minutes and half an hour depending on whether there is a queue.
If you just want to take the longest cruise; to go down to Houghton Lock, all the way up to Godmanchester lock, and back, is approximately 1.5 hours covering around 7.5 miles.
The Three Jolly Butchers mooring is located 250 meters HQ side of Houghton Lock. You will see the sign for Goodboats moorings. Walk all the way up the longest pub garden in England! when you get inside let them know you have arrived from Goodboats for your discount.
The Old Bridge accept boats landing outside on their private moorings on a first come - first served basis.
Turn left just after transitting Godmanchester lock to access the Godmanchester causeway. There are public moorings available, public toilets and public houses. Or continue on to Brampton Mill.
For a full day trip, St Ives town and back is approximately 1.5 hours each way.
MOORINGS
Huntingdon moorings are on the North bank HQ side of the Huntingdon bridge
Houghton moorings are at the Three Jolly Butchers only, do not sit on the mooring next to the lock as it is reserved for transiting craft.
Hemingford moorings are on the south bank one mile after Houghton Lock.
St Ives moorings are through the St Ives bridge and on the left towards the town
